EMDR and Couples Therapist in Athens, GA

Feeling Stuck, Overwhelmed, or Caught in the Same Life and Relationship Patterns?

You don’t have to figure it out alone.

I provide therapy for adults and couples who want real relief, deeper connection, and practical tools that actually work.

Let’s be honest—life can feel like a lot sometimes.

Maybe you're carrying the weight of things that have happened to you.

Or maybe you're stuck in patterns that no longer serve you—feeling anxious, depressed, numb, or just totally disconnected.

Or perhaps you stay up at night worrying that your relationship is hanging on by a thread after too many fights, too much silence, or a betrayal that’s left you both reeling.

You don’t have to keep going through this alone.

I work with adults and couples who are ready for meaningful change, especially those navigating:

  • Anxiety, depression, grief or chronic stress

  • Trauma or unresolved past experiences

  • Addiction or similar behavioral problems

  • Relationship conflict, disconnection, or betrayal from infidelity or addiction

Whether you’re feeling emotionally stuck or relationally disconnected, therapy can help you understand what’s happening beneath the surface and move forward with clarity.

Therapy isn’t about fixing you. It’s about understanding what’s getting in the way.

My approach is collaborative, structured, and compassionate. Sessions focus on insight, emotional regulation, and real‑world change. We’ll go at a pace that feels manageable while still helping you make progress.

You can expect:

  • A warm, non‑judgmental environment

  • Clear goals and direction

  • Evidence‑based methods tailored to you

Whether you're trying to break old cycles, rebuild trust in your relationship, or just want to feel like yourself again, you’re in the right place.

If you’re ready to talk, I offer a free 15-minute consultation so we can see if we’re a good fit. Click below and let’s take that first step together.

Meet Will -
Your Guide Through the Hard Stuff

Individual and Couples Therapist in Athens, GA

I’m Will, a licensed therapist with 15+ years helping adults and couples find relief from anxiety, trauma, depression, addiction, and relationship pain. My work blends clinical expertise with real human connection. You’ll hear clarity, compassion, and yes, a bit of humor — because healing happens best when you feel safe and understood.

I hold a Masters degree in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University and am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Georgia as well as a Nationally Board Certified Counselor (NCC). I use methods like Internal Family Systems, EMDR, Gottman, and EFT, all with a focus on your pace and your goals.

In addition to counseling, I also provide public trainings on topics such as The Gottman 7 Principles, as well as offer training consultation to organizations and agencies around Motivational Interviewing and Appreciative Inquiry concepts for managing organizational change.

Outside of sessions, I’m likely reading, playing games, or training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu — which, yes, gets me both metaphor and muscles.

FAQs

  • Yes, I’m in-network with most major plans via Headway. Insurance does requires a mental health diagnosis and coverage varies between plans. You’ll see your estimated cost before booking.

Because of the need for a diagnosis, Professional Coaching is not reimbursable through insurance.

Also, because insurance does not reimburse for “marriage enrichment,” in couples seeking to use insurance, the primary insured will need to meet criteria for a mental health diagnosis.

Furthermore, insurance does limit the length and frequency of sessions, with individual and couples therapy being limited to one 50-minute session per week. For this reason, services such as EMDR and Couples Intensives are not covered by insurance.

If you would like to would like to self-pay for appointments, my fees are $150 for a 50-minute individual session and $200 for an 80-minute couples session.

  • My office is located on Prince Avenue in the 740 Medical Commons directly behind the Village Drug Shoppe pharmacy. Parking is available on-site and I am also easily accessible through the Athens-Clarke County and UGA bus systems.

  • Yes. Telehealth sessions are available for clients located throughout the state of Georgia.

  • That’s common. Therapy varies depending on the personalities of the counselor and client, as well as the particular concerns brought forward. Sometimes the chemistry between the counselor and client or the counselor’s style or approach just isn’t a good fit.

The free 15-minute consultation call is a low-pressure way to get a feel for me as a person and clinician as well as to ask questions and see if this feels right for you.

  • During our time together you will begin to discuss and share your feelings, thoughts, and reactions in order for you to begin to gain insight, develop new thinking patterns, coping skills and strategies and create an overall improved quality of life.

It is natural to feel uncomfortable about opening up at first but this process because much easier after a few sessions. Since self-growth is possible through commitment and work I will encourage you to practice the things you discuss and learn outside of appointments.

  • The number of sessions needed is different for everyone depending on a number of factors including but not limited to your goals, severity or intensity of your concerns or symptoms, how long you’ve been dealing with your concerns, current levels of stress, and the progress you make towards reaching your short or long-term goals. On average, most people attend between 10-20 appointments.

  • In general, all communications between a client and counselor are confidential and can only be released with the client’s written permission. However, there are some exceptions required by law to this rule. Exceptions include:

When there is a reasonable suspicion of child/dependent abuse or of an elder adult.

When the client communicates a threat of bodily injury to others.

    When the client is suicidal.

When disclosure is required pursuant to a legal proceeding
